Prayer for Strength — To Withstand Emotional Darkness

I have chosen you; I haven’t rejected you.
Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you; I will help you;
I will hold onto you with my righteous right hand.

— Isaiah 41:9-10

Heavenly Father,

             I call you on now to strengthen me. Strengthen my mind, strengthen my heart, strengthen my spirit, strengthen my faith. Bathe me in your golden light of grace, in your peace. I feel the old darkness tugging at the edges of my consciousness. I see it, creeping along the edges of my vision, threatening to overwhelm, to hijack my clarity, my calm, my sense of purpose. I feel the old familiar sadness, a sadness that loves to abound in self-pity, a sadness that steals away my joy and my hours. Rock me in your arms, Father, soothe my soul with your gentle words, remind me of your great love for me, as your beloved and adopted daughter. Fill me with your wisdom— to know, & trust, that all emotions pass, like waves— to believe that your will for me is not a life of suffering, but a life of righteous living and freedom from the dark. Thank you, Lord, for breathing life into my earthbound lungs, and for making eternal life available to me through the incomparable sacrifice of your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you, Lord.

In Jesus’s holy name I pray.

Amen.
